Severe storms Severe storms

Severe storms have already become a deadly destructive problem for residents of North America’s eastern seaboard. Human-caused warming of the world’s oceans intensifies these tropical storms to the point that nothing in their path will survive. Increased storm surge is only part of the problem.

These severe storms also bring with them winds that shred houses, buildings, roofs, trees and more. Beach erosion is another effect of stronger and more frequent storms. Combined with rising sea levels, severe storms could completely drive out the inhabitants of Florida and many small nearby islands in this lifetime.

Coastal wetlands are also threatened by increasingly severe storms across the globe, which in turn increases the damage caused by coastal flooding. Human population and development only serves to further antagonize the delicate natural balance between us and our biosphere.
